Currently, there are millions of Mexicans living in the United States, in several of the main states of the American Union; one of the questions that fellow countrymen have once they live in the neighboring country is what programs, support, or pensions they will have access to; here we tell you what they are and what they consist of.
Living in the United States does not mean automatically losing all the social security rights that a person acquired in Mexico; depending on their work history, age, contributions, and personal situation, Mexicans living in the neighboring country may have access to a Mexican pension (such as ISSSTE or IMSS), United States retirement benefits, or schemes that allow them to contribute to their retirement.
Mexicans residing in the United States can access certain pensions, U.S. Social Security benefits, and social security, education, and consular advisory programs.
What support can Mexicans in the United States receive?
Below, we list some of the support and programs to which Mexicans living in the American Union have access:
We recommend confirming eligibility with the responsible institution before submitting documents, paying fees, or hiring an intermediary.
This is how Mexicans living in the United States can retain certain pension rights acquired in Mexico and access U.S. benefits if they meet their requirements. However, having residence in the American Union means that you cannot request other aid such as the Welfare Pension (Pensión Bienestar), which requires that the beneficiary resides in Mexico.
