Find out the figure and start adjusting your budget!
With the arrival of the final months of the year, thousands of workers in Mexico begin to wonder how much money they will receive as a Christmas bonus in December.
If you earn minimum wage, the amount you are entitled to depends on the geographic area where you work and the length of time you have been employed by your employer.
The Federal Labor Law (LFT) establishes that workers have the right to receive an annual Christmas bonus of at least 15 days of salary, provided they have completed one year of service. If they worked for less time, they must receive a proportional part. In addition, it indicates that by law, the bonus must be paid before December 20.
How much of a Christmas bonus am I entitled to in 2026 if I earn the minimum wage?
Since January 1 of this year, the general minimum wage is 315.04 pesos per day, while in the Northern Border Free Zone it is 440.87 pesos per day, according to the National Minimum Wage Commission (Conasami).
If you worked the entire year, from January 1 to December 31, 2026, and you receive the general minimum wage, the calculation is as follows:
$315.04 pesos × 15 days = $4,725.60 pesos
$440.87 pesos × 15 days = $6,613.05 pesos.
How is the Christmas bonus calculated if you earn the minimum wage?
To calculate the minimum Christmas bonus for a person who worked the full year, multiply the daily salary by 15.
The formula is: Daily salary × 15 days = annual minimum Christmas bonus.
How much of a Christmas bonus am I entitled to if I didn't work the entire year of 2026?
If you started working during 2026 and have not yet completed one year of seniority, you have the right to receive a Christmas bonus proportional to the time worked.
To estimate the proportional amount, you can use this formula:
Daily salary × 15 ÷ 365 × days worked during the year.
For example, a person who earns the general minimum wage of 315.04 pesos per day and worked 180 days in 2026 would have an approximate proportional Christmas bonus of $2,331.99 pesos.
Who is entitled to receive a Christmas bonus?
The Christmas bonus is a right for workers who maintain a subordinate employment relationship. People hired by professional fees are not automatically entitled to this benefit.
Can the Christmas bonus be less than 15 days of salary?
It cannot be less than 15 days of salary for those who worked the full year.
Is the Christmas bonus taxed?
It may be subject to income tax (ISR), but there is an exempt portion in accordance with tax legislation.
Where can I file a claim if I am not paid my Christmas bonus?
You can go to the Federal Defense of Labor Office (Profedet) to receive free guidance on your rights and alternatives for claiming payment.
