With the goal of ensuring people live a dignified old age with better pensions, the Pension Fund for Welfare was created. Through this fund, the federal government provides a solidarity economic supplement to the pension amount corresponding to the worker, "in order to ensure justice and contribute to a dignified life in accordance with the welfare policy," notes the National Commission for the Retirement Savings System.
Who can receive the Pension Fund for Welfare supplement?
In the case of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), it concerns those who began contributing under the Social Security Law in effect as of July 1, 1997. For the Institute for Social Security and Services for State Workers (ISSSTE), it applies to those under the individual accounts regime.
Does the Pension Fund for Welfare provide $17,885 pesos?
The IMSS explains that the Fund seeks to bring the pension closer to the average salary of the last year contributed, up to a limit of $17,885.85 per month. This amount is updated annually in accordance with expected inflation.
How many contributed weeks are needed in 2026 to access the Fund supplement?
For IMSS workers seeking to access the supplement, the Institute indicates a minimum criterion of: 875 contributed weeks.
Do I have to request the Pension Fund supplement?
In the case of the IMSS, you are not required to submit a separate application. The Institute notes that the eligibility analysis is performed automatically during the old-age pension application process.
Who does NOT receive the $17,885 pesos from the Fund?
Not all pensioners are entitled to the supplement. Among those who do not receive this benefit are:
- Personas que no cumplen con las semanas requeridas en el caso del IMSS
- Personas que no cumplen las demás condiciones establecidas.
Requirements to access the Pension Fund for Welfare
IMSS
- Cotizar bajo la Ley 97
- Tener 65 años para acceder a la pensión de vejez
- Contar con al menos 875 semanas cotizadas
- Tu pensión es inferior al salario promedio del último año cotizado
- Cumplir las demás condiciones aplicables.
ISSSTE
- Estar bajo el régimen de cuentas individuales
- Cumplir las condiciones para pensionarte por vejez
- Tu pensión se encuentra dentro de los parámetros establecidos por el Fondo.
