George Clooney launches new criticism against Trump: “Every idiot thinks they are brilliant”

The American actor, producer, and director George Clooney maintained his critical discourse this Thursday against the president of the United States, Donald Trump, underscoring that "every idiot thinks they are brilliant."

"Every idiot thinks they are brilliant, right? It’s just the truth. Look, we have a president... They think they are brilliant," he said amid laughter from the audience during a masterclass at the Venice Film Festival, which the day before had awarded him the honorary Golden Lion for his career.

Clooney, 65, reached that conclusion by citing the guidance Joel Coen had given him as a director regarding his character in 'O Brother, Where Art Thou?', a convict sentenced to hard labor.

"I play an idiot, and Joel comes up to me and says: 'You... You are the smartest guy in every room you walk into.' Obviously, because every idiot thinks they are brilliant," he stated.

On Wednesday, at the press conference prior to receiving the Golden Lion, the star of other films such as 'Good Night, and Good Luck', a film he also directed, had defined the current situation in the United States as a "kakistocracy": "A country governed by the least qualified people."

Clooney said he is not afraid of the consequences of taking such a firm political stance.

"The president of the United States posts offensive tweets about me. It’s okay. I can handle it. I’ll be fine. Everything will be fine. That’s life. I mean, I would be very ashamed to reach the end of my days without having pissed anyone off along the way," he said.

His meeting with the public served as an opportunity to look back at his career and acknowledge that it was the series 'ER' that put him on the cinematic map: "After 'ER' it was clear that a movie could be made just because of my name.
