The relationship between and has once again sparked controversy after Mary Trump, the niece of the US president, shared new statements regarding their family dynamic. In a recent interview, the clinical psychologist described the bond between her uncle and her cousin as something she found "strange" and "uncomfortable."

Mary Trump's statements (as a clinical psychologist) have once again put the comments the president has made publicly about his eldest daughter's physical appearance over the years under the spotlight.

The confessions of Ivanka Trump's cousin were released by The Daily Beast following her appearance on the British podcast The Rest Is Politics.

During the conversation, the psychologist spoke about the way Trump interacted with his children and asserted that she perceived him as an uninvolved father, adding that she noticed a particular focus on Ivanka.

Likewise, she stated that her uncle had a bond with Ivanka that seemed strange to her and recalled behaviors she observed during family gatherings.

"He was a totally disinterested father (...) he had no real interest in his children," revealed Mary, who noted that as Ivanka grew up, the magnate showed more interest in his daughter: "When Ivanka grew up, he developed a very strange attachment to her, but I can't say exactly that it was paternal."

She explained: "She would constantly sit on his lap, and I can't explain it well, but I found it strange and uncomfortable." Mary Trump clarified that her experience with her cousins was limited: due to the age difference, she mainly saw them at Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations.

Following these revelations, internet users once again began to question the nature of the relationship between the US president and his daughter.

Donald Trump's comments on Ivanka's appearance

One of the most well-known episodes occurred in 2006, when Donald and Ivanka participated in the American show The View. When answering a question about the possibility of his daughter appearing on the cover of Playboy, Trump said that if Ivanka were not his daughter, perhaps he would be dating her.

Similarly, during an appearance on Howard Stern's show in 2006, the host suggested that Ivanka Trump looked "more voluptuous than ever" and asked Trump if his daughter had undergone implant surgery, to which he replied that she "had always been very voluptuous" and claimed he would know if she had any cosmetic work done.

Also, in 2015, in an interview with Rolling Stone, the businessman commented on Ivanka's physical appearance: "What a beauty, that one. If I weren't happily married and, you know, her father..."
