Trump gives ultimatum to Iran at the UN: deal or "annihilation"

Donald Trump said on Tuesday that a decision had to be made between reaching an agreement with Iran or taking that country "to hell," in a speech before the UN General Assembly.

"I have to make a big decision: will an agreement be reached with Iran that allows them to rebuild and create a country much greater than it has ever been, perhaps one of the greatest in the Middle East or even the world?" Trump said.

"Or do I annihilate the Islamic Republic and do it quickly, without ever giving them the chance to kill and destroy people and countries again? Do I drag them to hell with no chance of survival and no hope for future greatness or generations to come?"

Trump reiterated his optimism about reaching an agreement with Iran after the U.S. midterm elections in November, in which polls suggest his party could lose control of Congress, partly due to high fuel prices resulting from the conflict.

"I think we will reach a fair agreement right after the elections, because it makes no sense for them not to," Trump stated.

"They are waiting to see how I do in the midterm elections. What they don't realize is that I am not running. I already did, and I won by a landslide."
