After speculation regarding a possible romance between the two, Toñita clarified that she and Yahir were never boyfriend and girlfriend, though they did have their “flings”.
The singer also admitted that she did fall in love with him and explained that, at the time, the reality show’s production team wanted to make what was happening between them public, but she refused because she had a boyfriend.
“I dated Yahir, not as a girlfriend. I have always been very frank. I had my flings. That is very different. Did I ever fall in love with him? Yes. And I’m going to explain why. Because we were in confinement and my companion, while he was flirting with Nadia, who was my other companion, was also at the same time seeing a dancer and at the same time he was flirting with me, but the production wanted to make it look like we had something going on to make it a bigger deal than it was with Nadia, but I denied it... because I did have a boyfriend... and he deserved respect publicly. Besides, because nobody saw anything and we knew what was going on there,” she expressed.

Toñita claimed that her thing with Yahir “lasted a year,” although, according to her statements, he denies it.
The singer explained that she began to realize the situation when she discovered that Yahir was dating several women at the same time.
“The problem was that at first I said, well, it’s just some fooling around, but after we left, we kept seeing each other, and he was with one woman, he had the girlfriend who was the one who dressed us, plus he was with a blonde from the soap opera, whom everyone thought was Martha Higareda—it wasn’t Martha, it was the blonde, very pretty, and he was with me. I didn’t know about another one... That’s when it hit me,” she said.
Toñita also described Yahir as a man who was not “just any guy,” but someone who “was very well endowed” and “is very well endowed.”

The singer of “De mí no te vas a burlar” also responded to Yahir’s fans who question her statements and claim that she never had anything with him. Toñita insisted that she did have encounters with the singer.
“The fans tell me ‘it’s not true, you just wanted it to happen.’ You’re the one who wanted it to happen, honey, because I didn't. My bones definitely went through there. In fact, one day Nadia told me ‘I wish I were like you’ because she is a family girl, well-behaved; I am a demon. I don’t stay wondering ‘what if,’ which is the difference.”
Finally, Toñita clarified that she has never sought to speak ill of Yahir and claimed that she loves him and considers him her brother.
“I used to say Yahir is quite a player, but that’s my way of expressing myself; it’s not that I’m speaking ill of him. I love Yahir, I love my friend, he is my brother; I had my flings, I didn’t have a relationship with him like we were boyfriend and girlfriend, but my brother is a bit crazy.”
