The new book about Princess Diana has brought the British royal family back into the spotlight: while William is reportedly furious over the revelations from his uncle Charles Spencer, it has been disclosed that Prince Harry was allegedly aware in advance of his mother's brother's plan to publish his memoirs.
"Swan Song: Diana, My Sister", the book written by Charles Spencer, brother of Diana and uncle to William and Harry, will be published on September 22, 2026; the work recounts the life of the "people's princess" and the events that occurred after her death.
The initial revelations have already provoked an unusual response from Buckingham Palace and King Charles III, who quickly defended himself following the remarks made by his former brother-in-law.
According to RadarOnline, William is reportedly "furious" over the content of Charles Spencer's memoirs, especially because it addresses a "traumatic" period for him and his brother Harry.
"William is furious that all of this has been brought back into the public eye. To him, this is not ancient royal history or material for another book; it is about his mother, his father, and the most traumatic period of his childhood," a palace source revealed.
The source added: "For years he has wished for Diana's memory to be treated with dignity, rather than being the subject of constant controversy. The fact that these accusations are now coming from his own uncle makes the situation particularly painful."
The source also clarified that "William understands that Charles Spencer has his own memories and his own relationship with Diana. But there is a feeling that publishing such inflammatory claims inevitably forces William and Harry to relive the events they experienced as children, which has caused William to become extremely enraged by its publication."
Similarly, the insider commented that the Prince of Wales was angered by the timing of the book, as the 30th anniversary of Diana's death is approaching. "Instead of allowing her children to remember her in private, another battle has broken out over who said what during that terrible week," they concluded.
For his part, another person close to the British royals shared with RadarOnline that Harry was likely aware that his uncle was writing a book about Princess Diana.
"Inevitably, there are suspicions about Harry because he and Charles Spencer have become much closer and Harry has spent time at Althorp. People close to the family wonder if this book was discussed and if Harry helped craft it by offering his own memories or encouraging people to write it (...) no one can say that Harry helped write it, and that distinction is important. But among some royals, there is a feeling that it would be extraordinary if he didn't know anything about a project containing such damaging accusations about his father," they noted.
What did Charles Spencer reveal about Charles III and Diana?
One of the most controversial revelations is Spencer's claim that during an argument regarding Diana's funeral, the then-Prince Charles allegedly said, "We'll forget her soon."
The book also contains Spencer's claim that Charles reacted with an attitude he interpreted as deeply insensitive toward Diana's death.
Likewise, Charles Spencer asserts that he had a heated phone argument with the then-Prince Charles over the decision for William and Harry to walk behind their mother's coffin, as he did not want the two children to participate in the procession because he considered it would be a traumatic experience (at that time, William was 15 and Harry was 12).
