Quarterback Jalen Hurts will miss the rest of the National Football League (NFL) regular season with the Philadelphia Eagles after being diagnosed with blood clots in his lungs following several medical checkups that have kept him off the field in recent days.

"The current diagnosis is deep vein thrombosis, in addition to a bilateral pulmonary embolism. His clinical condition is stable and he shows no significant functional limitations," the Eagles reported in a statement issued to the NFL.

While he receives anticoagulants, "he will not be able to participate in contact activities, including football," so he is expected to miss the remainder of the regular season, they added.

Doctors specified that the prognosis "is very good," and although he will not be able to play on the field, the Eagles star "will remain active with the team and will continue his training."

The diagnosis of Hurts, a key player for the team, comes amidst a four-game losing streak that has plagued the Philadelphia ranks and threatens to derail the Eagles from the competition in their quest for the Super Bowl.
