Early retirement is one of the topics that interests Mexican workers the most, as it gives them the possibility of retiring without having to wait until they turn 60 or older.
However, not everyone can access retirement at 53, as it is required to meet a series of mandatory requirements and steps.
Who will be able to retire at 53 at the ISSSTE?
Workers of the Institute for Social Security and Services for State Workers (ISSSTE) are those who will be able to access retirement at 53 starting in 2034.
To access this benefit, the conditions specifically established for workers covered by the Tenth Transitory article, section II, paragraph a), of the 2007 ISSSTE Law must be met.
Requirements to retire at 53
For those seeking to retire at 53 starting in 2034, the main requirements are:
- Ser mujer trabajadora del ISSSTE
- Tener 53 años de edad como mínimo
- Ser trabajadora al servicio del Estado comprendida en el Décimo Transitorio
- Contar con 28 años o más de cotización
- No haber optado por la acreditación de bonos de pensión del ISSSTE
- Cumplir con las demás condiciones y procedimientos que correspondan para solicitar la pensión por jubilación.
Can you already retire at 53 at the ISSSTE in 2026?
No; in 2026 the minimum retirement age is 56 for female workers and 58 for male workers who meet the requirements of the decree. The ISSSTE agreement halted the increase in age that was planned and established a progressive reduction for the following years.
How many years of service are needed for retirement?
Female workers need at least 28 years of contributions and male workers need at least 30 years.
What is the Tenth Transitory of the ISSSTE?
The Tenth Transitory is the regime provided for certain workers who were subject to the pension scheme prior to the 2007 reform and who chose to remain under that regime.
