The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) arrested a 40-year-old man accused of participating in an alleged plot to carry out a "violent attack" against the Texas Capitol this Thursday, October 1, after authorities received information they deemed credible regarding the threat.
The suspect was identified as Benny Caldera Jr., a resident of Converse, a town near San Antonio. DPS special agents worked overnight with the FBI and local authorities to investigate the threat and locate the man, according to reports from local U.S. media.
Caldera was arrested around 3:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 30, at his residence by a DPS SWAT team, according to the agency.
He was subsequently transported to the Bexar County Jail, where he faces a felony charge for making a terroristic threat against a public official. His bail was set at $75,000, according to county documents provided in the information on the case.
Texas Governor confirms the operation
Governor Greg Abbott addressed the arrest and acknowledged the coordinated work of state and federal authorities.
Abbott stated that the DPS and the FBI "thwarted a planned attack on the Texas Capitol" and thanked the officers who participated in the operation.
