The plane carrying the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, from Moldova to Oslo was almost struck by a drone, according to the Norwegian prime minister, although a Ukrainian source asserted that the incident was not serious and did not put the leader at risk.
"His flight was almost hit by a drone as it took off from Moldova. That is the reality in which he lives," declared Jonas Gahr Støre to the Norwegian public broadcaster NRK. Zelensky arrived in Oslo on Tuesday night, without giving further details.
However, a source from the Ukrainian presidency qualified this version in statements to AFP. "It was an alert in Moldova, when a Russian drone penetrated the airspace of Moldova and Romania," the source explained.
The source described the claim that Zelensky was in any danger in that situation as "exaggerated."
The Ukrainian president arrived in Oslo on Tuesday night, where he held talks with Støre; Finance Minister Jens Stoltenberg, and Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide regarding Norwegian military aid, including support for air defense, and civilian assistance.
On Wednesday, Zelensky joined numerous foreign dignitaries who attended the funeral of King Harald, who passed away on August 28 at the age of 89.
Zelensky left Norway after the funeral and headed to Canada to hold talks with leaders of that country, Støre told NRK.
