Donald Trump declared on Monday that immigration is the cause of the demonstrations and violence that have shaken France since Saturday, and insisted that the country, like all of Europe, should "close its borders."
"What is happening in France is related to immigration, not to schools or anything else. It is immigration," the US president declared to the press before a campaign event, as he has been insisting since Sunday.
Trump asserted that he had told his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, several years ago: "You are making a big mistake in France. You are letting everyone in. (...) Soon Paris will be a Muslim city."
"If Europe does not close its borders and expel the criminals, like those who are demonstrating, Europe is finished," the US leader insisted.
"They will have no chance of surviving," he warned.
Although estimates differ, some experts calculate that up to 10 million people entered the United States illegally during the four years of Joe Biden's presidency (2021-2025).
A report from the Department of Homeland Security's comptroller released on September 29 indicates that between 2021 and 2024, the immigration and customs agency detected nearly 3.2 million migrants who overstayed their temporary visa and remained in the country.
The Trump administration asserts that in a year and a half it has reduced to practically zero the provisional release of undocumented migrants within the country, and nearly three million have already left the country.
