The story of LouLou, a four-year-old husky-poodle mix, had a happy ending after an agonizing search in the mountains of Alaska. The animal survived more than 50 hours in the snow after being separated from her owners during an avalanche that also left two hikers injured.

The incident occurred on October 10 at Chugach State Park, near Eklutna Lake, in Anchorage. LouLou was walking with Brian, the partner of her other owner, Lauren Padawer, and a second hiker when the avalanche caught them by surprise.

The two men were rescued and taken to a hospital due to their injuries, but the dog disappeared into the snow and mountainous terrain. Her family did not know if she had survived.

How did they find LouLou after the avalanche in Alaska?

When she found out about the accident, Padawer was out of the country celebrating her father's birthday. Despite the distance, she began organizing a search to find her and asked for help through social media.

The first attempts were unsuccessful. Weather conditions, snow, and the difficulties of moving through the area complicated the volunteers' work.

However, the search continued with the participation of hikers, support teams, and helicopter pilots. An important clue was the AirTag that LouLou was wearing, a device that allowed for signals regarding her approximate location.

After more than two days, volunteer pilots Amanda Barker and Dave Beckett tried again. Upon receiving new signals from the device, they used a helicopter to get closer to the area where the dog might be found.

Once they located the area, the volunteers had to land some distance away and continue on foot for about 20 minutes through the snow.

Finally, they found LouLou alive. The dog responded by barking when she heard them calling her, which allowed the rescuers to approach her and bring her to safety.

How is LouLou doing after surviving in the snow?

After the rescue, LouLou was checked by a veterinarian. Although she suffered minor injuries, including a fractured toe and damage to a canine tooth, her overall condition was good.
