The weather in Mexico will have adverse conditions over the coming days due to the influence of Isaías and Simón, in addition to other meteorological systems.
According to the National Meteorological Service (SMN), Isaías has intensified into a Category 1 hurricane. Its circulation, combined with atmospheric instability at altitude, will favor heavy rains in the Yucatán Peninsula and the southeast of the country.
At the same time, tropical cyclone Simón will continue to intensify off the coasts of Guerrero and Michoacán, generating the most adverse conditions in the South Pacific and western Mexico.
Where will it rain the most this Thursday, October 8?
The highest rainfall accumulation is expected in Guerrero, mainly on the coast and the south of the state, where heavy rains with isolated torrential amounts of 150 to 250 millimeters could be recorded.
Very strong rains with isolated intense amounts of 75 to 150 millimeters are also forecast in:
- Oaxaca, principalmente noroeste, centro y costa.
- Chiapas, oeste y costa.
- Campeche, oeste y costa.
- Yucatán, costa, norte y oeste.
In addition, there will be heavy rains with isolated very strong amounts in Michoacán, State of Mexico, Mexico City, Puebla, Veracruz, Tabasco, and Quintana Roo.
The rainfall could be accompanied by lightning, wind gusts, and hail, in addition to causing puddling, flooding in low-lying areas, landslides, and rising water levels in rivers and streams.
Simón will maintain torrential rains in the Pacific
Tropical cyclone Simon will continue off the coasts of Guerrero and Michoacán. Its circulation will interact with a low-pressure channel, the subtropical jet stream, and high-altitude divergence.
This combination will favor torrential rains in Guerrero, while Oaxaca and Chiapas will also see intense precipitation.
For Friday, October 9, the forecast again anticipates rainfall of 150 to 250 millimeters in Guerrero and Michoacán, mainly in coastal areas.
Authorities are maintaining surveillance on the development of Simón due to the possibility of heavy rains, wind, and high surf on the Pacific coast.
Which states will have strong wind gusts and high surf?
Wind will be another of the main effects of these meteorological systems.
This Thursday, gusts of 50 to 70 km/h are expected on the coasts of Michoacán, Guerrero, Yucatán, and Quintana Roo.
On the coasts of Oaxaca, Veracruz, Tabasco, and Campeche, gusts of 40 to 60 km/h are forecast.
The surf will also be high. The most significant conditions are expected on the coasts of Colima, Michoacán, and Guerrero, where waves could reach between 3 and 4 meters in height.
For Friday, the surf could remain between 3 and 4 meters on the coasts of Michoacán and Guerrero.
Weather forecast for Friday, October 9
The rainy period will continue on Friday across several regions of Mexico.
Intense rains with isolated torrential amounts of 150 to 250 millimeters are forecast in Guerrero and Michoacán.
There will also be very strong rains with isolated intense amounts in Oaxaca and Chiapas, while Jalisco, Colima, Puebla, Veracruz, and Yucatán will have heavy to very strong rains.
Mexico City and the State of Mexico will also have rain and showers, so the Valley of Mexico will remain under unstable conditions.
Until when will Isaías affect Mexico?
The forecast indicates that Isaías will continue to move away from the Mexican coasts and will stop affecting the country during Friday, October 9.
However, other systems will maintain rainy conditions in different regions of the national territory.
What will happen with the weather on the weekend?
For Saturday, October 10, very strong rains with isolated intense amounts are expected in Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán, Guerrero, and Chiapas.
In addition, the coasts of Jalisco, Colima, and Michoacán could record surf of 5 to 6 meters, while in Guerrero waves of up to 5 meters are expected.
On Sunday, October 11, the most significant rains will concentrate again in the west of the country. Very strong rains with isolated intense amounts are forecast in Nayarit, Jalisco, and Colima, in addition to heavy rains in Baja California Sur, Sinaloa, and Michoacán.
By then, Rachel will move toward Baja California, with the possibility of generating rain, wind, and high surf toward the end of the forecast period.
Will there also be heat in Mexico?
Yes. Although a slight decrease in temperatures is expected in a good part of the country, hot to very hot conditions will continue in the northwest.
Maximum temperatures could reach 40 to 45 °C in the northeast of Baja California and the northwest of Sonora.
