United States President Donald Trump, stated that he should be the winner of the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize because, he said, he has resolved eight conflicts and the total destruction of the world, although he acknowledged he doubts the final decision of the Nobel committee, based in Oslo.
"I have resolved eight conflicts and have avoided, perhaps, the total destruction of the world, because Iran will never have a nuclear weapon. And that is something positive, something very positive," declared Trump in a video broadcast by the media outlet Al Jazeera yesterday.
The American president, who has been involved in eight conflicts since taking office in January 2025, stated that it would be a "great discredit" to the Nobel Peace Prize committee not to grant him the award this year and asserted that "they have a reputation for not giving it to people" like him.
Trump, who has not yet reached peace with Iran nor achieved it in Ukraine, is among the 287 candidates nominated for the prize, which will be awarded tomorrow, Friday, October 9.
However, in his statements, Trump acknowledged "doubting" the final decision of the committee, whose deliberation for this award is marked by political pressure exerted by the president not only on this occasion, but at repeated times when he claimed that the prize should be his.
Furthermore, at the beginning of the year, the American president received a gold medal from the Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, who won the Nobel in the previous edition, after which the Nobel Institute had to clarify that the award still belonged to Machado.
"Whether I receive it or not, I have done much more" than other presidents, Trump concluded.
