The new White House spokesperson, Katie Zacharia, left her post this Friday after President Donald Trump suggested she resign following criticism received during her first week on the job, a official confirmed to EFE.
"Katie Zacharia is in the process of leaving the position of press secretary," they stated without specifying whether she had resigned or been fired, shortly after United States President Donald Trump suggested she leave the position.
"I said, 'If I were you, I'd rethink this,'" said Trump today, who noted he would speak with the spokesperson.
"Is this for you, Katie? Honestly, you don't need this," the president told reporters, before adding that he would "let her make that decision."
Zacharia took office on Monday, October 12, after Karoline Leavitt left the post in August to focus on her family.
The president announced the appointment of his new spokesperson on Friday, October 9.
Zacharia's first appearance before the press on Tuesday the 13th was marked by a session of just 14 minutes, in which she read a good portion of her statements and answered only three questions, all from conservative media outlets.
She also had difficulties answering some questions, such as one regarding the exchange of intelligence information with Ukraine.
Added to the criticism of her debut were doubts about her professional career. Trump introduced her as a lawyer when announcing her appointment, but Zacharia admitted this week that she did not pass the California bar exam, which she took in 2011 after graduating with a law degree from Pepperdine University.
This Friday, Zacharia defended herself again in an interview with Fox News, where she argued that her role is to "represent the president before the press" and not to serve as a White House lawyer.
