The sister of the Spanish student stabbed in Mexico denounces that no one warned her family that three other women were murdered this year at the same university, the Autonomous University of Morelos. "Do we really have to normalize that (...) three women are murdered at the same university and no one does anything?"

"The people who are living there, who are studying at that place: why is no one doing anything?" laments Lara Tacoronte in a video she published herself on her social networks.
"I have no words, I don't know what to say, other than that we live in a sick society, full of... inhumane people," asserts the sister of Claudia, the stabbed exchange student.
In Morelos, 69 women were murdered between January and July of 2026 (21 femicides and 48 intentional homicides), out of a total of 1,250 violent deaths of women in Mexico (380 femicides and 870 intentional homicides), according to data from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP).
Claudia Tacoronte Aguilera is the fourth student from the Autonomous University of the State of Morelos (UAEM) to be murdered in just seven months, after Kimberly Ramos, Karol Toledo, and Michelle Itzayana Fuentes, cases that had already sparked protests and student strikes to demand greater security.
Lara confirms that her sister had been in the city of Cuautla for a little "less than a month, three weeks," where she had moved with an exchange program from the Spanish University of Granada, where she was studying Early Childhood Education.
"She went to Mexico on an exchange and last night (Sunday) someone tried to steal her phone, a man. She ran away, he went after her and stabbed her in the stomach with a knife. Not once, but several times," she recounts.
Lara Tacoronte emphasizes that no one had warned Claudia that she was going to a university where three other women had been killed in the last year, the last one in June, a circumstance she learned about while there and which had her parents frightened.
The young woman wonders why nothing was done sooner and if those responsible for organizing this university exchange knew the risks that this area of Mexico presents.
Claudia Tacoronte was 21 years old and was a fourth-year Early Childhood Education student at the University of Granada.
In Mexico, she had just started an academic mobility stay in Morelos, where she was murdered in a crime that the Prosecutor's Office is investigating as a femicide.
According to the prosecutor of Morelos, Fernando Blumenkron, the events took place on Saturday at the Casa de la Cultura in Cuautla, a municipality about 100 kilometers south of Mexico City.
