Two 18-year-olds attacked a school in Mexico, where they killed the vice-principal and injured three others using bladed weapons and allegedly some type of explosive, the local prosecutor reported on Thursday.
The aggressors are brothers and former students of the school, located in the northern city of Torreón, in the state of Coahuila, which borders the United States.
"This is evidently a brutal assault," state prosecutor Federico Fernández told reporters, ruling out the use of firearms "for now."
According to the official, the youths entered the premises and assaulted the administrative authorities first, followed by some students.
A report from the local newspaper El Universal states that the attackers arrived and threatened to assault the women. The noise and loud bangs alerted neighbors in the area, who rushed to the scene and managed to detain them.
"The motive they indicated preliminarily was an issue of grievances against the (school) campus," Fernández indicated.
The prosecutor detailed that, in addition to bladed weapons, the aggressors reportedly used "a type of firecracker," but not high-powered explosives.
He indicated that at least one of the wounded is in "serious condition."
Meanwhile, the federal Security cabinet reported on its social media that it is collaborating with Coahuila authorities to clarify the crime.
In Mexico, a country plagued by organized crime violence, attacks in schools are very rare, unlike what occurs in its neighbor, the United States.
The most recent precedent was in March, when a 15-year-old student was arrested in the troubled state of Michoacán (west), accused of shooting and killing two teachers at a private school.
Hours before the crime, a post circulated on social media where the alleged aggressor posed with a rifle and displayed messages linked to the "incel" movement, an English abbreviation for "involuntary celibates," which promotes hatred toward women.
Men linked to this group have claimed responsibility for deadly attacks around the world in the past.
In September 2025, Lex Ashton Cañedo, a 19-year-old student, attacked with a bladed weapon, killing a 16-year-old peer and injuring a worker at a public high school in Mexico City.
