A video has gone viral on social media showing a child who was left hanging from a basket on a Ferris wheel at a fair in Torreón, Coahuila. Was it a mechanical failure and were there any injuries? Here we tell you what happened.
What happened to the child on the Ferris wheel in Torreón?
The shocking video, lasting just 25 seconds, shows the minor hanging from a basket of the amusement ride, at a considerable height from the ground, while fair staff and attendees try to get him to safety.
According to reports from El Siglo de Torreón, the accident occurred at 3:00 AM on October 1st.
The site managers and family members explained that the mother of the two children got on the Ferris wheel along with other relatives, while their children remained outside with their father.
At one point, one of the minors headed to the back of the amusement ride, where the exit is located, and entered an area restricted to users.
Subsequently, the minor climbed onto the structure and grabbed hold of one of the baskets.
Upon noticing the minor's presence, the fair's staff and visitors acted immediately to stop the ride and bring him to safety.
Did the Ferris wheel have a mechanical failure? This is what the authorities said
The Regional Laguna Coordination of State Civil Protection assured that it was not a mechanical failure or improper operation of the ride, but rather the minor entering through the back of the structure and subsequently holding onto the basket.
Likewise, they noted that there were no injuries.
