The United States Department of Justice recently filed "assault" charges against the man who sprayed a liquid on Democratic congresswoman Ilhan Omar, who is of Somali descent, during a rally in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The man, identified as Anthony James Kazmierczak, faces up to eight years in prison for the crime of "assault, resistance, or obstruction of certain officers or employees" after he approached Omar and sprayed her with a liquid while she was speaking, before being detained by the security team.

Kazmierczak, who was sitting in the rally audience, stood up mid-speech and pointed a syringe at her containing a mixture of water and apple cider vinegar, which stained her clothes but did not reach her face, according to the complaint signed by FBI agent Derek Fossi.

The event was interrupted but resumed after the legislator insisted on continuing her speech so that her detractors would not achieve their goal: silencing her.

A person close to Kazmierczak explained to the FBI that, a few years ago, they heard him speaking on the phone saying, "Someone should kill that bitch," according to the document.

On his social media accounts, there are several messages in support of United States President Donald Trump and a drawing attacking the congresswoman posted in October 2021.

Omar was holding a rally against the deployment of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents and the Border Patrol, a mobilization authorized by the Trump administration.

Since these forces arrived in the state, specifically in Minneapolis, two civilians have died after being shot by agents, one was wounded by the same, and dozens have been arrested for protesting against the conduct of the forces.

For several weeks, the Democrat has been the target of attacks by Trump as part of his campaign in Minnesota.

The President accuses the congresswoman of having kept thousands of dollars following a state aid fraud scheme.
