The sports drink brand Gatorade is recalling 122,000 cases of its products across much of the United States because the bottles did not specify the coloring used on their labels.
According to a notice from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the recall affects products distributed in 37 states and includes 28-ounce (828 ml) bottles of Lemon Lime, Lemon Lime Zero, Orange, and Orange Zero flavors.
The recall began on September 25 and is classified as Class II, a category that covers situations in which the use of or exposure to the product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse effects, or where the probability of serious consequences is remote.
Among the affected states are California, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, and Texas.
According to the FDA, "nearly all" recalls of this type are carried out voluntarily by the manufacturing company of the product involved in some violation of food regulations.
