Walmart recalls Alfredo pasta over potential Listeria: check these lots before eating

The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reported the recall of two lots of Authentic Italian Lemon Alfredo Fettuccine, from the Bettergoods brand, due to the possibility of contamination with the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes.

The product was distributed in Walmart stores across the United States. New York-based Gias Foods announced the recall on September 15, 2026, while an investigation continues to determine the cause of the issue.

As of the date of the FDA notice, no cases of illness related to the product had been reported.

Which Alfredo pasta was recalled from Walmart?

The recall does not apply to all Bettergoods pasta, but specifically to two lots of Authentic Italian Lemon Alfredo Fettuccine.

Why was the pasta recalled?

The recall followed a routine sampling program conducted by the Washington State Department of Agriculture and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

Tests indicated that the finished products could contain Listeria monocytogenes. Gias Foods suspended the distribution of the affected products while the company and the FDA investigate the source of the issue.

What is Listeria and why is it concerning?

Listeria monocytogenes is a bacteria that can cause listeriosis, an infection that can be serious, especially for older adults, young children, pregnant women, and people with weakened immune systems.

In healthy individuals, the infection can cause symptoms such as fever, headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. In pregnant women, a Listeria infection can cause serious complications, including miscarriages and stillbirths.

If you have the Bettergoods Authentic Italian Lemon Alfredo Fettuccine at home and it matches one of the two recalled lots, the recommendation is not to consume it and to return it to the place where it was purchased to request a full refund.
