Tropical Storm Polo is located this Monday in the Pacific Ocean, about 320 kilometers southwest of Zihuatanejo, Guerrero, and maintains conditions that could favor its intensification into a hurricane during the day, the National Meteorological Service (SMN) reported.
At 09:00 hours, Central Mexico time, Polo was recording maximum sustained winds of 100 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 120 km/h, while moving east at 7 km/h.
Its wide circulation will cause intense rain, high waves, and storm surges in various Mexican Pacific states.
Where will Tropical Storm Polo cause rain?
The SMN forecasts the following accumulated rainfall:
- Lluvias intensas de 75 a 150 milímetros: regiones de Guerrero, principalmente en la costa y sur, y Oaxaca, también en la costa y sur.
- Lluvias muy fuertes de 50 a 75 milímetros: costa y sur de Michoacán.
- Lluvias fuertes de 25 a 50 milímetros: este y sur de Jalisco, además de Colima.
The precipitation could generate landslides, increased levels in rivers and streams, overflows, and flooding, mainly in low-lying areas.
Which states will have high waves due to Polo?
In addition to the rain, the tropical storm will cause dangerous maritime conditions in the Pacific.
It is expected:
- Oleaje de 2 a 3 metros: costas de Guerrero y Michoacán.
- Oleaje de 1.5 a 2.5 metros: costa de Oaxaca.
- Mar de fondo de 1.5 a 2.5 metros: costas de Jalisco y Colima.
- Vientos de 10 a 20 km/h, con rachas de 30 a 50 km/h: costas de Colima, Michoacán, Guerrero y Oaxaca.

According to the SMN report, it is expected that Polo will intensify into a hurricane during this Monday.
At 09:00 hours it was still at tropical storm category, with sustained winds of 100 km/h and gusts of 120 km/h.
Therefore, the population should remain alert to the evolution of the system and consult official updates before carrying out activities in the affected areas.
Which states are under surveillance?
Due to the proximity of the system, the National Meteorological Service, in coordination with the United States National Hurricane Center, established a surveillance zone from Tecpan de Galeana, Guerrero, to Punta San Telmo, Michoacán.
The surveillance contemplates an area of the Pacific coast that could experience effects associated with the displacement and strengthening of Polo.

Faced with intense rain, waves, and the risk of flooding, the authorities urge the population in the affected areas to:
