United States President Donald Trump asserted that his country is still analyzing the possible outbreak of affecting the Russian region of Siberia, although he stressed that Washington will support Moscow "in every way possible."

"We just found out, we are looking into it, but it seems like a big problem for Russia," Trump said when asked outside the White House before departing for a campaign event in Nebraska for the November 3rd legislative elections.

"I hate to see them going through that. It's a tough disease," added the president, who then indicated that the outbreak detected around the Irkutsk region appears to be pneumonic plague.

The U.S. government issued an alert on Sunday regarding a possible outbreak of pneumonic plague in that area of Siberia following the death of a woman possibly as a result of this disease.

As reported by the independent Russian channel Liudi Baikala (People of Baikal), Russian authorities have quarantined several hospitals in Irkutsk due to suspicions of pneumonic plague.

"They are calling it pneumonia. Years ago, pneumonia could be treated more easily, but microbes and germs have grown stronger disproportionately. Even so, we will help them. We will help them in every way possible," concluded Trump before leaving for Nebraska.

For its part, this Monday, the Russian consumer protection agency Rospotrebnadzor has called for calm and urged people "not to pay attention to rumors and speculation."
