U.S. President Donald Trump stated on Wednesday that Venezuela has committed to purchasing "exclusively" products made in his country with the proceeds from its new oil agreement.
In a post on Truth Social, the president said that "Venezuela will exclusively purchase products made in the United States with the money it receives from our new oil agreement."
Trump added that the purchases will include "agricultural products, medicines, medical devices, and equipment manufactured in the United States."
With this new announcement, the United States will become Venezuela's "main partner," according to the Republican.
The announcement comes 24 hours after it was confirmed that Caracas is set to deliver between 30 and 50 million barrels of oil to the United States.
The White House stated on Wednesday that it maintains "maximum leverage" over the interim government of Delcy Rodríguez in Venezuela and affirmed that the U.S. has already begun commercializing crude oil from the Caribbean nation seized by Washington as part of the apparent agreement reached between both countries.
"(Venezuela) will no longer send or traffic people or criminal cartels to murder U.S. citizens, as they have done in the past, and the president is fully implementing his foreign policy of peace through strength," said U.S. presidential spokesperson Karoline Leavitt this afternoon.
