United States President Donald Trump presented a plan this Thursday to replace undocumented migrant truckers with Army veterans.
"We have already removed more than 24,000 people who do not speak English from the roads," he declared in a speech at the White House, accompanied by senior officials from his administration and the transportation industry.
The president, who accused migrants of being a danger on the roads, also stated that his administration has forced the "cancellation of more than 28,000 driver's licenses issued to illegal immigrants."
The program, christened 'Freedom Haulers,' will allow Army veterans with heavy vehicle experience to bypass certain tests to obtain truck driving licenses, while the rest will enjoy an accelerated evaluation process.
Trump stated that 34 of the country's 50 states have agreed to participate in the program and urged the rest to join as soon as possible.
Since his return to the White House in January 2025, the Republican has pushed for a hardline immigration policy, marked by a significant tightening of the border, asylum restrictions, raids, and deportations, while describing undocumented individuals as criminals.
