Macarena García, the actress who plays Sasha Sokol in the new series on ViX, spoke about the challenge of portraying the story involving the singer and producer Luis de Llano, which has sparked debate over sexual abuse, as they had a relationship when she was 14 and he was 39.

The actress explained why the production addresses a relationship marked by the age gap and the imbalance of power, and made her position clear: that a minor wants to be involved with an adult does not change the nature of the facts.

In an interview with journalist Mandy Friedmann, García described the process as an intense experience for the entire team, both for those appearing in front of the cameras and for those who worked behind them.

The actress pointed out that portraying such a delicate episode required understanding the social context of the eighties, when certain behaviors within the were normalized or not questioned as they are today.

“Yes, well, it was very intense. Especially, I think the exercise we had to do, not just me, I think everyone involved in the series, both in front of and behind the camera,” she noted, referring to her work in front of the cameras during filming.

And she added: “We had to travel in time and we had to see these characters not with the vision we have now, which is very privileged and fortunately we already have enough information to know that it is wrong.”

The actress also highlighted that the historical context helps to understand how people close to both figures of the group could not identify the gravity of certain behaviors as is done today.

However, she stressed that nothing justifies what happened: “In that era, it was so different, as you mention, that we had to do the exercise of getting into the mindset of what they believed in the eighties, of what they thought was right,” she commented.

What did Macarena García say about the case of Sasha Sokol and Luis de Llano?

The actress gave her opinion on the controversy surrounding the story between both figures and the gravity of what happened more than 30 years ago, in addition to highlighting why it did not signify a problem back then.

García acknowledged that a good part of the conversation has focused on analyzing the history from current values, but defended the importance of showing the environment in which the events occurred and the reasons why some people might not have noticed the problem.

“I have realized that much of the conversation has gone to that, like a critique from the current perspective, to an era that thought completely differently from how we think,” the actress noted.

García also explained that the series seeks to show how a person can be charming or attractive and, even so, exercise abusive behaviors.

When speaking of the character of , played by Osvaldo Benavides, the actress maintained that portraying someone with charismatic qualities should not be confused with minimizing their actions: “Many times they are charming, many times they are very handsome and that does not take away that it remains abuse,” she affirmed.

The actress was emphatic when referring to the responsibility of adults in a relationship with a minor.

Although for years De Llano has alleged that everything was consensual and that Sokol was very mature for her age and knew what she was doing, that does not remove the power imbalance nor does it make the adult free of responsibility: “That the other party, who is a minor, wants to be involved, but well, it’s a child. No matter how much she wanted to, it remains abuse.”
