The new complaint filed by Maribel Guardia against Imelda Garza Tuñón could have serious criminal consequences, as revealed by the actress’s lawyer, Alonso Beceiro, who explained that the illegal distribution of controlled medications could result in a prison sentence, as could a potential accusation of homicide. "Imelda’s statement opened the gates of hell," the attorney asserted while providing the current status of the case.
The dispute between Maribel Guardia and Imelda Tuñón has now reached the criminal level, as the famous actress filed a complaint with the Attorney General’s Office of Mexico City following the statements her former daughter-in-law made regarding the medications she obtained for Julián Figueroa, who passed away on April 9, 2023.
After it was announced that Maribel had reported her son’s former partner for crimes against health and potential homicide, Imelda Tuñón left Mexico and is currently in the United States.
In an interview with Ernesto Buitrón News, lawyer Alonso Beceiro shared details on the state of the legal process and how they intend to proceed against Imelda to uncover the truth about what happened regarding Julián’s death.
Among the points he mentioned they will present as evidence are the testimonies of the psychiatrists who provided the medications to Imelda, which she ultimately gave to Julián.
"The supply of psychotropic drugs, that supply which she acknowledges—it doesn’t mean I’m only going to prove it with that video; I will call, the Prosecutor’s Office will call, and if necessary, even through a judicial request, all the psychiatrists who intervened. In these types of cases, files can be declassified, so that is where we will see the deception Imelda led regarding the professionals. If any of those professionals say, 'Yes, indeed, she came to me, gave me symptoms, and today I know that the symptoms she was giving me weren’t hers, they were her husband’s, so that I would give her this, this, and this substance, and she deceived me.'"
On the other hand, Beceiro clarified that the only reason Maribel Guardia sought him out initially was because she wanted to see her grandson and establish a visitation schedule that would allow her to be close to the little boy. However, the lawyer stated that when he took the case to help her, he noticed several "loose ends," "presumptions," and "things that did not add up" that necessarily had to be investigated.
"It’s like it hits her, and then she says, 'Yes, I want to know what happened, for better or for worse, no matter what, but I want to know what happened in those final hours of my son’s life,'" Alonso Beceiro recounted regarding the 67-year-old actress’s reaction.
How many years in prison could Imelda Tuñón face?
According to Maribel Guardia’s lawyer, for crimes against health, it is no less than 30 years in prison; a similar number of years would correspond to the crime of homicide.
“It is a prison sentence, definitely, both for crimes against health and for the crime of homicide; it is a prison sentence of no less than 30 years,” he emphasized.
What did Imelda Tuñón say about the controlled medications and Julián Figueroa?
On the *Mesa Cero* podcast, Imelda explained that she went to a psychiatrist and described symptoms that, according to her own account, corresponded to Julián. The singer’s ex-wife said that in that way, she obtained sleep medications and subsequently gave them to Figueroa.
"I lied to the psychiatrist the whole time," Imelda recounted. Based on these statements, Maribel Guardia’s legal team considered that there were elements that needed to be investigated by the authorities.
