Prince Harry opened his heart as he recalled the last phone call he had with his mother, Princess Diana, hours before her death in 1997.
Almost 30 years after that conversation, the Duke of Sussex confessed that he still wonders what would have happened if he had known he would never hear her voice again. What did he say? Below, we share the details of his statements.
During an interview for the series One More Question, by GQ magazine, 42-year-old Harry said that he sometimes wonders what the world would be like if she were still alive and how she would have changed his own family.
He also recalled the last conversation he had with Lady Di before she died on August 31, 1997, in a car accident at the Pont de l'Alma in Paris, when she was 36 years old.

According to him, the last conversation Diana had with him and his brother William took place while they were at Balmoral, the Scottish residence of the royal family.
A few years ago, in the documentary Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy, it was detailed that the call was brief because both teenagers were eager to go back to playing with their cousins.
What then seemed like an everyday chat ended up becoming the last memory of his mother’s voice: “If I had known it was the last time I was going to talk to her, how different that conversation would have been,” Harry recalled.
“I’m the one who has to live with that,” the prince expressed, revealing the regret he has felt since he was 12 for not having talked to his mother more or made the call more special.
The prince acknowledged that at the time he did not understand the importance of that moment and that all he wanted to do was go out and play: “And the fact that, at twelve years old, all I wanted to do was go out and run and play with my cousins.”
That reflection remains painful for him, although it is also part of how he has learned to process the loss. Harry said that, at times, he still asks Diana questions and feels that he maintains a connection with her.
He even said that, at certain moments in his life, he perceives her energy, an experience he relates to the personal work he has done for years to cope with grief.
“Sometimes I ask her questions, looking for some kind of answer, and sometimes I do get an answer. Maybe I’ve spent too much time in California, but after the work I’ve done, there is still a connection with my mother and I really feel her energy at certain moments and at certain stages of my life,” he noted.
Harry also spoke about the process he went through after years of repressing his feelings regarding the death of Lady Di and the last time he spoke to her.
Therapy, he explained, allowed him to cry, acknowledge his pain, and find new ways to live with his mother's absence.
