Will Reeve, an ABC News reporter and the youngest son of famous Superman actor Christopher Reeve, revealed that he was diagnosed with testicular cancer at age 34.
In new statements, the journalist told Good Morning America that he discovered the illness after noticing a lump while showering and that his wife, Amanda Dubin Reeve, was the one who convinced him to see a doctor. Below are the details of his revelations.
The finding occurred in April 2026, just three months after Will and Amanda were married. At first, Reeve thought the discomfort would go away on its own, but the lump remained. “I assumed it was nothing or that it would go away (...) I was stunned,” he recalled. His wife insisted he get an ultrasound, and the study detected a mass that required immediate surgery.
In early May, Will underwent an orchiectomy, a procedure used to remove the affected testicle. However, subsequent tests showed that 95% of the cancer was embryonal carcinoma, an aggressive form of testicular cancer.

Following the devastating diagnosis, the journalist required more extensive treatment. As he recounted, on June 10th, Will underwent a six-hour surgery to remove several dozen lymph nodes from his abdomen. Three of them tested positive for testicular cancer, so he subsequently received two cycles of chemotherapy, with his last treatment ending on July 31st.
Although the news about his delicate health condition was recent, Reeve noted in the interview that he is cancer-free, according to a new check-up he had on September 8th.
As part of his follow-up, he will initially have to undergo scans and blood tests three to four times a year to monitor his health and the chances of the cancer returning, especially since he and his wife Amanda are planning to have children soon.
In the interview, the son of the famous actor spoke about the nightmare he lived through with the cancer discovery and linked it to the tragedies his family has experienced. It is known that his father was paralyzed from the neck down after falling from a horse in 1995; at that time, Will was only two years old.
Years later, in 2004, his father died at 52, and two years later his mother, Dana Reeve, passed away at 44 from lung cancer.
During the talk with Good Morning America, Will Reeve highlighted that he treated his testicular cancer at the same center where Dana Reeve was treated before she died, Memorial Sloan Kettering. After his own tragedy, Will reflected on what his mother went through in her fight against cancer, her final days, and everything that happened with his father.
“It is not lost on me the irony that, 20 years after my mother died of lung cancer at Memorial Sloan Kettering, I was in the same building receiving cancer treatment. I was living the lives of my parents at the same time,” the reporter said.
“I lived firsthand what my mother had suffered. At the same time, I learned more about what it was like to be my father during the last years of his life, when my mother and our family were taking care of him,” he added.
“And then he died [Christopher Reeve], and I had to learn what grief was. And shortly after, my mother, who had never smoked, got sick with lung cancer and then died, and I had to learn what grief was all over again on a different level,” he pointed out.
