José Eduardo Derbez, son of Victoria Ruffo and Eugenio Derbez, defended his mother following the controversy over comments she made about Aitana Derbez, the comedian and Alessandra Rosaldo's youngest daughter.
In an interview with the media, the actor asserted that Victoria Ruffo “has a dark sense of humor” and explained that he cannot “take sides” with anyone because they are all his family.

After Victoria Ruffo caused controversy by trying to defend Aitana Derbez from criticism about her physical appearance and saying "they're really ugly at that age," José Eduardo Derbez asserted that his mother has “a dark sense of humor” and that she was not looking to offend his sister.
“I don't think that's the case. Obviously we are talking about my family... all of them are my family, I cannot take sides with anyone. What I can say is that I think my mother is often a joker, she has a dark sense of humor”.
José Eduardo Derbez explained that currently, some comments can be taken out of context and reiterated that he defends all the members of his family equally, so he will not take sides in the controversy.
“We are in an era where sometimes there are comments that are taken out of context or often cross a line, but I didn't see it as her attacking Aitana... that's not it, I defend my family equally, I am not going to take sides with anyone because I think there is no need to take sides with anyone”.

José Eduardo Derbez joked about the possibility of his mother and Yolanda Andrade facing off in an event like La Velada.
“What I would do is: put them in that thing they do where they beat the crap out of each other (La Velada), it would be great, imagine my mom and Yolanda beating the crap out of each other, tearing each other apart, it would be incredible. Yes, let them get in there and beat the hell out of each other,” he explained.
