is facing one of the biggest commercial stumbles of his career with Digger, his new film alongside Mexican director Alejandro González Iñárritu. After a premiere that fell below expectations and projections of million-dollar losses for Warner Bros., a report from the American press claims that the actor is furious and having difficulty accepting the public's rejection.

According to RadarOnline, a source close to the actor stated that Cruise is particularly affected by Digger's commercial performance, and that he is blaming various people involved in the project for the film's poor performance.

"Tom is humiliated and furious, and when Tom gets furious, everyone around him feels it (...) this was personal for Tom. He wanted to remind Hollywood that he is an actor, not just an action star. That is why the public's rejection has hurt him so much," he asserted.

The film directed by Iñárritu represented a different gamble for Cruise, known mainly for his roles in action franchises such as Mission: Impossible and Top Gun. In Digger, the actor stepped away from these roles to embody an oil tycoon whose activities trigger an environmental catastrophe.

"Tom can blame the campaign, the studio, the critics, and anyone within reach, but he cannot accept the idea that the public simply didn't want what he offered them (...) he defended this film. He put his name, his power, and his reputation on the line for it," the source stated.

But, according to the informant, what the actor has not done is take any responsibility for the result: "Accepting that would mean admitting that it wasn't someone else's failure. It was his big chance, and it failed," he concluded.

Why didn't 'Digger' convince the public?

An analysis published by TheWrap pointed out that the film did not seem designed for the same audience that goes to see the actor perform stunts and star in major action sequences. The change in genre may have made it difficult for some of his fans to identify what kind of experience they would find in the film.

How much money did 'Digger' lose at the box office?

The Guardian estimated that losses could reach 245 million dollars, although that is a projection.
