Edson Álvarez and some members of his extended family have been accused by a producer of involvement in an alleged kidnapping that took place in Mexico City in November 2024. The case came to light after Juan José López Ordóñez publicly recounted what he claims happened following a dispute related to a documentary about the footballer's life and an alleged debt of 3.5 million pesos.
According to López Ordóñez’s testimony to TVNotas, the conflict involved Jonathan Toache Bedolla, whom he identifies as the father of Edson Álvarez's partner. The producer claimed he was deprived of his liberty in November 2024.
According to his version of events, the problem began several months earlier because he filmed a documentary about the life and career of the Mexican footballer. López Ordóñez stated that he worked on the production for approximately two years, a project that reportedly began around the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
"Through his father-in-law, I told Edson that he needed to pay 3.5 million pesos for this documentary. He was thinking of selling it to Netflix. Only 2 people knew: Angelito Flores and Vanessa Changerotti, who live in Madrid and work for this platform," he recounted.
According to his testimony, the agreement included a payment of 3.5 million pesos for the work performed. The producer maintains that when he tried to collect the money, he lost direct communication with Edson Álvarez and that contact had been made primarily through Jonathan Toache.
Ordóñez also linked the alleged kidnapping to a real estate dispute, as he stated that he facilitated a property located in the San Rafael neighborhood in Mexico City, which he valued at around 30 million pesos.
According to his story, Jonathan Toache had acquired a stake in that property without making an investment, a situation that subsequently allegedly aggravated the conflict between the two.

López Ordóñez accuses the footballer's circle of being related to the alleged kidnapping that, according to his account, he suffered in November 2024.
However, the producer does not state that Edson Álvarez was one of the people who physically deprived him of his liberty. His accusation points to knowledge of the events, while he primarily holds Jonathan Toache responsible for having given the alleged instructions.
How did the alleged kidnapping reportedly occur?
According to López Ordóñez, the events took place on November 3, 2024, while he was driving his car in the Moliere and Homero area in Polanco, Mexico City.
The producer claims that two women entered his vehicle and he was subsequently subdued and taken against his will. In his account, he claimed he was threatened and blindfolded. He also stated that his alleged captors mentioned that they received instructions from Jonathan Toache.
López Ordóñez maintains that he finally regained his freedom when the vehicle stopped and some people noticed what was happening. Subsequently, according to his version, he was taken to the Public Prosecutor's Office, where he filed a complaint.
According to RÉCORD, the documentary project was allegedly an initiative by Jonathan Toache and not a direct assignment from Edson Álvarez; the media outlet also reported that the player is preparing to release a statement to clarify what happened.
