“These are the moments you dream of when you are three, four, five, or six years old,” declared Sullivan after the match. With his goal, he surpassed the record set four days earlier by his teammate Mathis Albert as the youngest player to score for the United States.
The goal was the climax of a difficult night for Mexico. The US team also had goals from 18-year-old Julian Hall, who scored for the third consecutive match, and Malik Tillman, who was responsible for sealing the 3-0 win in the 85th minute against a Mexican side that finished with 10 players after the expulsion of Mateo Chávez.

Who is Cavan Sullivan?
Sullivan is considered one of the great promises of American soccer and currently belongs to the Philadelphia Union. His talent attracted attention at the age of 13, when he surprised everyone during a match against Arsenal's youth categories. Two years later, he made his professional debut with Philadelphia Union II in MLS Next Pro.
His progression was so fast that Manchester City reached an agreement to sign him when he turns 18 so he can join the Premier League club. In the 2026 season, Sullivan also began to show his potential in MLS.
In September, the winger achieved another milestone by becoming the first teenager in MLS history to be directly involved in a goal during five consecutive matches.
Sullivan himself has made it clear that his ambitions are enormous. After growing up studying the milestones of players like Lionel Messi and Alexis Sánchez, he stated: “I want to be the best of all time.” He even went so far as to say that he saw himself capable of having helped the United States during the 2026 World Cup.
Cavan Sullivan was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on September 28, 2009, so he has recently turned 17. His transfer to Manchester could happen in exactly one year to subsequently debut in the Premier League.
Sport is a common practice in his family, and he is the younger brother of Philadelphia Union basketball team star Quinn Sullivan, who is also considered a prodigy.
