Bad news for fans of Raúl Jiménez! Wolverhampton confirmed that the Mexican striker will undergo surgery this Friday, October 16, after his left knee injury did not progress as expected.
Jiménez will be off the pitch until January 2027, meaning he will miss not only the upcoming Wolves matches but also the commitments for the Mexican National Team.
After the news broke, the footballer shared an emotional message on Instagram for his fans, where he assured them he will come back stronger than ever.
But what surgery will Raúl Jiménez undergo, how long will he be out, and what Tri matches will he miss? We tell you here.
What will they operate on Raúl Jiménez for? This is the injury he suffered
Through a statement, Wolverhampton explained that Raúl Jiménez suffered an injury to the medial collateral ligament of his left knee four weeks ago during a match against Everton.
However, the injury did not evolve as expected, so the 35-year-old Mexican striker will have to undergo surgery.
"Normally, with a relatively low-severity injury, the ligament would heal on its own; however, in this case, it has not progressed as we expected, and after performing imaging exams regularly over the last three weeks, it has been confirmed that the ligament is not recovering as predicted," the club detailed.
Wolverhampton confirmed that the footballer will be operated on this Friday, October 16, in London and will need about three months of rehabilitation before returning to the pitch.
"So he will undergo the surgery on Friday in London and then will have about three months of rehabilitation before being ready to play again," he explained.
The club also clarified that it is a simple surgery that does not require ligament reconstruction.
"It is a fairly simple surgery for an experienced knee surgeon: the ligament is reattached to the tibia and no reconstruction is required."
Likewise, it noted that both the team and Jiménez are disappointed by the news. Although, the striker is also happy that there is now a defined plan for his recovery.
"He is disappointed, but he is also happy that we now have a well-defined plan. We can build on that and ensure he returns within the expected timeframe."

“Life always puts tests in front of us, and this is one more that I will overcome. I know the road won't be easy, but I also know what I am capable of. This doesn't stop me, it only prepares me to return stronger. One day at a time, with patience, discipline, and the same mindset as always. I will return. And I will return stronger than ever,” he wrote.
