Aeroméxico and Delta Air Lines announced on Monday three new direct routes from Mexico City to Orange County, Fort Lauderdale, and Portland, which will begin in January 2027 and expand their alliance's network from the Mexican capital to 27 U.S. destinations.
The flights, operated by Aeroméxico, will have a daily frequency and will use Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft with a capacity for 166 passengers: 16 in Premier Class, 18 in AM Plus, and 132 in Main Cabin.
The connection with Orange County, California, will begin on January 11; the Fort Lauderdale, Florida, route on January 14, and the Portland, Oregon, route on January 21 from Mexico and one day later in the opposite direction.
Aeroméxico stated that it will be the only airline with direct flights between Mexico City and each of these three destinations, incorporated as part of the Joint Cooperation Agreement it maintains with Delta for the market between Mexico and the United States.
“We are pleased to announce three new routes to the United States, one of the most dynamic, strategic, and highly relevant markets for Mexico's international connectivity,” said Giancarlo Mulinelli, Senior Vice President of Global Sales at Aeroméxico.
The executive maintained that the connections will expand tourism options and open up opportunities for business and commercial exchange.
Orange County will provide access to Southern California beaches and Anaheim theme parks; Fort Lauderdale will strengthen access to South Florida and Port Everglades, while Portland will expand connections with the Pacific Northwest.
The announcement comes after a U.S. federal court in August set aside the Department of Transportation (DOT) order that sought to revoke the approval and antitrust immunity of the Aeroméxico-Delta agreement, allowing the alliance to remain in effect.
The Joint Cooperation Agreement began operating in May 2017 and allows the airlines to coordinate aspects such as pricing, schedules, and networks in the cross-border market under antitrust immunity.
Both companies also maintain a relationship of more than two decades as members of SkyTeam.
The regulatory context had another change this past October 19, when the DOT revoked restrictions imposed in 2025 on certain schedules and service proposals of Mexican airlines between Mexico and the United States.
The three route openings are in addition to the expansion announced by Aeroméxico for 2027, which includes new connections from Mexico City to Milan, Nassau, and Montego Bay, in addition to the Guadalajara-Paris flight.
