The Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) of Mexico City will implement a special operation during the celebrations of the 216th anniversary of the Independence Day Grito this Tuesday, September 15, and the Military Parade on September 16.
The plan includes security, prevention, surveillance, and traffic measures across the 16 boroughs, with the goal of protecting those participating in the celebrations and maintaining mobility in the capital.
In total, the SSC will deploy 13,107 police officers, in addition to 1,436 units, 46 motorcycle patrols, eight tow trucks, 12 ambulances, six motorcycle ambulances from the Rescue and Medical Emergency Squadron (ERUM), and a helicopter from the General Directorate of Air Services “Cóndores”.
Operation at the Zócalo this September 15 for the Independence Day Grito
For the Independence Day Grito activities at the Zócalo and the Historic Center, the SSC will install three security cordons to control access and the flow of attendees.
The operation in this area will have 3,500 police officers and 91 units, in addition to foot patrols, camera surveillance, and pre-hospital medical care.
The Undersecretariat of Traffic Control will carry out road closures and adjustments as the celebration progresses.
Alternative streets and avenues to avoid the Center
The SSC recommends avoiding the Historic Center area and using the following alternatives:
- Al norte: Eje Central Lázaro Cárdenas e Isabel La Católica.
- Al sur: avenida Circunvalación y calle Bolívar.
- Al oriente: República de Perú y avenida Fray Servando Teresa de Mier.
- Al poniente: República de Uruguay y avenida Izazaga.
Additionally, 4,725 police officers will maintain a presence in the 16 boroughs to reinforce security during ceremonies and events related to the Fiestas Patrias.
Will there be road closures on September 16 for the Military Parade?
Yes. The Military Parade on September 16 will cause traffic disruptions in the Zócalo, the Historic Center, and along the route that the contingent will follow.
For this operation, 3,400 SSC personnel and 125 units will be deployed.
In addition, 900 members of the Undersecretariat of Traffic Control will be in charge of carrying out cuts and detours to ensure safety during the parade and facilitate circulation in nearby areas.

What does the SSC recommend for September 15 and 16?
The agency asked the public to plan their travel in advance, avoid areas where events will take place, and respect closures and security perimeters.
It also recommended following the instructions of police officers and using established alternative routes to avoid major mobility disruptions.
Operators at the Command and Control Centers (C2) will maintain permanent surveillance via video surveillance systems to detect incidents and coordinate emergency responses.
