If you are planning a trip to Thailand, there is an important change you should keep in mind. Since September 15, 2026, Mexicans can no longer enter the Asian country solely with their passport, as they are now required to obtain an electronic visa (e-Visa) before traveling.
The measure was confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) and the Royal Thai Embassy in Mexico after the Thai government eliminated the visa exemption for Mexicans. The process is carried out entirely online through the official Thai e-Visa portal.
Where is the visa for Thailand processed?
Applications must be made exclusively through the official Thai government portal: https://thaievisa.go.th/.
According to the official Thailand e-Visa system, applicants must create an account, fill out the corresponding form, upload the required documentation, pay the applicable fee, and wait for the immigration decision. Once approved, the visa is sent by email.
How much does the visa for Thailand cost?
The cost depends on the type of visa requested and the purpose of the trip. Thai authorities set the fees during the application process within the official e-Visa platform. Furthermore, the fees are non-refundable, even if the visa is denied.
How long does the process take?
According to information released by the Embassy of Mexico in Thailand and the SRE traveler's guide, electronic visa processing can take approximately five to ten business days, although it is advised to start the process several weeks in advance to avoid setbacks.
Requirements for applying for the electronic visa
Requirements may vary depending on the visa category, but authorities generally request:
- Pasaporte mexicano vigente.
- Pasaporte con una vigencia mínima de seis meses al momento de ingresar a Tailandia.
- Fotografía reciente.
- Itinerario de viaje o boletos de avión de entrada y salida.
- Comprobante de hospedaje o reservas de hotel.
- Evidencia de solvencia económica cuando sea requerida por las autoridades migratorias.
Additionally, to enter Thailand and other Southeast Asian countries, it is recommended to have more than two blank pages in your passport. Unofficial stamps or physical damage to the document can cause problems during the process or even rejection of the immigration application.
The TDAC is also mandatory
The electronic visa is not the only requirement to travel to the Asian country. Since May 1, 2025, all foreigners entering Thailand by air, land, or sea must complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC), a mandatory digital arrival card that replaces physical immigration forms.
This registration must be completed within the three days prior to arrival in the country through the official portal: https://tdac.immigration.go.th/arrival-card/.
The SRE recommends verifying that your passport has at least six months of validity before starting your trip and maintaining physical and digital copies of important documents.
It is important to remember that the visa does not guarantee automatic entry into Thailand, as the final decision rests exclusively with Thai immigration authorities at the point of entry.
