When is the October long weekend?
The break will begin on Friday, October 30, and will extend until Monday, November 2, so students will be able to enjoy a long weekend before resuming their school activities.
The official SEP calendar establishes that there will be no classes on Friday, October 30, due to the ordinary session of the School Technical Council (CTE). Added to this date are Saturday, October 31, and Sunday, November 1, which are habitual rest days for most students.
The long weekend will continue on Monday, November 2, a date on which the SEP considers a suspension of teaching duties for the Day of the Dead. In this way, students will have four consecutive days without school activities before returning to the classrooms on Tuesday, November 3.
These dates correspond to the 2026-2027 school calendar published by the SEP. If you are an employee, you should know that the vacation long weekend might not apply to you, since November 2 is not considered in the list of mandatory rest days under the Federal Labor Law (LFT).
Why will there be no classes on Friday, October 30?
The suspension on Friday, October 30, is due to the School Technical Council session, a monthly meeting in which teachers and administrators review educational progress, identify learning needs, and agree on strategies to improve student performance. These meetings are usually scheduled for the last Friday of each month, so students do not attend classes during the day.
Is October 12 a rest day for students?
Although this Monday, October 12, commemorates Columbus Day (Día de la Raza) in Mexico, this date does not appear as a suspension of classes on the 2026-2027 SEP school calendar, nor is it recognized by the LFT. Therefore, academic and work activities are carried out normally, unless a local educational authority or institution determines a particular measure.
