The Russian Foreign Ministry compared the case of Jeffrey Epstein to a “vampire dance” this Wednesday, following the release of documents related to the late financier, who was accused of multiple sexual crimes and pedophilia.
“I think everyone should see a clip from the interview of the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, and the part where he says that we are watching—and thank God it is coming to an end—the vampire dance," said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova during a press conference.
The diplomat was alluding to an interview with Putin in which he described Western elites as being accustomed to “lining their pockets with money.”
According to Zakharova, individuals from Epstein’s “cesspool” went on to hold relevant positions in the West, while Russia commits itself to the primordial role of traditional morality.
“Western elites were formed, to a large extent, on the basis of being raised in these cesspools, mud pits, and rat holes," she added.
In this sense, she called on Western media to divert their attention from Russia and toward the Epstein papers.
“It would seem that now all the British tabloids, which received a large part of the evidence of what they only suspected, should be focusing on this. But no. They are talking about Russia," the diplomat lamented.
In general, talking about the Epstein files “causes nausea,” the spokesperson asserted.
“There is not enough moral strength to understand and digest it (…) I think what we have seen now is a snowflake at the tip of the iceberg. It is not even the tip of the iceberg," she added.
