Weather in Mexico today: Alert for flooding and heat exceeding 45 degrees!

The National Meteorological Service (SMN) has issued an urgent advisory for this August 4, 2026. While a heatwave suffocates several states, the Mexican monsoon, tropical wave number 24, and atmospheric instability threaten to cause disasters across much of the territory.

If you live in the capital or the State of Mexico, do not put away your umbrella. For Mexico City, showers between 5 and 25 millimeters (mm) are forecast, while in the State of Mexico the situation is more severe with heavy rains (25 to 50 mm) specifically in the southwest zone.

Watch out for the wind! In both entities, gusts of 30 to 50 km/h are expected. Furthermore, although the capital will maintain a temperate climate, in the southwest of the State of Mexico, the thermometer could rise to 30 or 35 degrees Celsius.

The SMN warns that precipitation could be accompanied by electrical discharges and hail, increasing the risk of puddles and flooding.

• Chubascos (5 a 25 mm): Baja California, Nuevo León, San Luis Potosí, Guanajuato, Puebla y Morelos.
• Lluvias Aisladas (0.1 a 5 mm): Tamaulipas, Querétaro, Hidalgo, Tlaxcala, Campeche, Yucatán y Quintana Roo.

• 35 a 40°C: BCS, Sinaloa, Coahuila, Durango, Zacatecas (sur), San Luis Potosí, Nayarit, Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán (suroeste), Hidalgo (norte), Morelos (sur), Puebla, Guerrero, Oaxaca, Chiapas, Veracruz, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatán y Quintana Roo.
• 30 a 35°C: Aguascalientes, Guanajuato y Querétaro.

Vientos fuertes y oleaje elevado: Alerta en las costas

Wind gusts of 40 to 60 km/h are expected in the Gulf of California, Baja California, Sonora, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Tamaulipas, Michoacán, Puebla, Guerrero, Oaxaca, and Quintana Roo. These winds could knock down trees and advertising signs.

Regarding the sea, waves of 1 to 2 meters in height are forecast on the western coast of Baja California and along the coasts of Sinaloa, Nayarit, Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán, Guerrero, Oaxaca, and Chiapas.
