EU offers $3,000 and free flights to migrants who leave before December. Requirements

The United States government has tripled the monetary incentive to $3,000 for undocumented migrants who choose to self-deport before December 31, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced on Monday, adding that they will also cover return flights.

"If you wish to return voluntarily to your country of origin and are in the US illegally, we will give you $3,000 during the holidays so you can return home. We will buy your plane ticket and give you $3,000 so you can return to your country," said DHS Secretary Kristi Noem.

Noem specified that this increase in the "departure bonus" will only be effective until the end of the year and includes people who meet these requirements:

"Raise your hand. We will help you get home," she assured in an interview with the FoxNews network.

The US had already announced last May a stipend of $1,000 and the return plane ticket to their countries for undocumented immigrants who choose to leave the country voluntarily.

"We will facilitate the process for you and perhaps you will have the opportunity to return to this country the right way someday. If you wait for us to intercept you, detain you, arrest you, and have to deport you ourselves, you will never have the opportunity to return," Noem warned.

The DHS secretary urged those who choose self-deportation to download and use the official CBP Home application. "We will ensure they get home in time for Christmas," she stated.

In a statement, Homeland Security reported on Monday that since the return of President Donald Trump to the White House last January, 1.9 million undocumented immigrants have chosen voluntary deportation, with tens of thousands of them doing so through CBP Home.

The Trump administration has moved quickly to fulfill the president's campaign promises to carry out the largest deportation campaign in the country's history.

The multiple arrests and raids against irregular immigrants since the president's return to power have sparked strong criticism from the Republican's detractors and pro-immigrant organizations.
