Are you planning to apply for your US tourist visa? If you want to process it as quickly as possible, you must be careful when selecting the Applicant Service Center (CAS) and the Consulate where you want to have your interview, as wait times are longer in some locations.
The Official U.S. Visa Information and Appointment Services provide approximate appointment dates for first-time applicants, and the city where it will take you the longest to complete the process is Ciudad Juárez.
The U.S. Consulate General in Ciudad Juárez has appointments available only until March 12, 2027, so you should avoid it if you want to process your visa quickly.
Consulados que tardan más en dar cita de visa de primera vez
These are the 3 consulates where the process will take the longest.
- Ciudad Juárez: 12 de marzo de 2027.
- Monterrey: 2 de diciembre de 2026.
- Guadalajara: 5 de noviembre de 2026.
If you wish, you can try to change the date of your CAS appointments and the interview at the consulate after your initial dates are assigned. It is also possible for consular authorities to move your visa appointments forward, so you should keep an eye on your email.
¿Por cuánto tiempo se otorga la visa y quién lo decide?
A tourist visa can be granted with a validity of up to 10 years. A consular officer decides this after conducting the interview with the applicant.
The officer determines the duration of the visa's validity after asking questions related to employment, family, travel plans, and the financial resources that will be used to fund the trip. If they are not convinced about any aspect, they may grant it for a shorter time. If there are no issues, it is most common to be granted a 10-year visa.
You can find out how long your visa was granted for at the end of the interview or when you pick it up from your courier service. The dates are located at the bottom:
Date of issue indicates the date on which it was issued. For example: 09 Jul 2026.
Expires on indicates the day, month, and year on which it will expire and cease to be valid. For example: 05 Jul 2036.
You can renew your tourist visa up to a year before it expires. You cannot enter the United States after the expiration date. You can also renew your visa afterwards, but keep in mind that if you do so within the first year of expiration, you may be exempt from the interview with consular officers.
