The suspension of outpatient consultations, rescheduling of surgeries, or laboratory tests would be some of the main effects if the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) goes on strike in the coming days if no agreement is reached regarding the salary increase and the resolution of other concerns.

What would happen if the IMSS goes on strike?
The National Assembly of Social Security Workers points out that, in the event that the social security institution goes on strike in the coming days, there will be several direct impacts on beneficiaries, such as:
The most affected patients would be:
Services would be restored once the strike ends or an agreement is reached between the union and IMSS authorities regarding the resolution of the aforementioned points and an ideal salary increase for workers is agreed upon.

- Urgencias
- Hospitalización de pacientes graves
- Atención de partos
- Cirugías de urgencia
- Terapia intensiva
- Atención médica de urgencia en cualquier hospital
Why would the IMSS go on strike?
Next Wednesday, October 14, IMSS workers will vote on a 6.8 percent salary increase proposal, of which 2.9 percent will be direct to the tabular salary and 3.9 percent in benefits, as proposed by the National Union of Social Security Workers (SNTSS).
In the event that they vote in favor, the 2.9 percent increase will be validated before the Federal Center for Conciliation and the increase will be applied retroactively to October 16.
If the workers vote against it, the union must continue negotiations until an agreement is reached with new salary proposals. In the event that this does not happen or the proposals are not accepted, IMSS employees will hold a vote at the National Congress to issue a strike call.
What are the IMSS workers asking for?
The workers of the IMSS National Workers' Movement, who will hold a mega-march in CDMX on October 13 prior to the vote, are calling for the removal of Rafael Olivos Hernández, general secretary of the National Union of Social Security Workers (SNTSS), better working conditions, salary increases, and the supply of medicines and medical supplies, in addition to the following:
