A major multi-vehicle accident recorded on the Arco Norte highway caused a tow truck to catch fire and led to severe traffic disruptions on the Ajoloapan-Pachuca stretch.
The accident occurred during the afternoon of Monday, September 28. According to information released by the Arco Norte administration, the emergency was attended to at kilometer 117, heading towards San Martín Texmelucan. Other reports on the incident place the event in the area between kilometers 115 and 117.
Images of the accident began to circulate widely on social media, showing the magnitude of the crash, which involved several vehicles and ended with one unit engulfed in flames.
What happened on the Arco Norte?
Initial reports indicate that a multi-vehicle collision occurred on the upward curve towards Ajoloapan. A tow truck traveling through the area reportedly lost control amidst the emergency and ended up catching fire.
Local media reported that before the fire, other accidents had already occurred at that spot, a situation that allegedly complicated traffic and subsequently led to the involvement of more vehicles.
The Arco Norte administration officially reported a “road incident” at kilometer 117, towards Texmelucan, and noted that traffic remained closed in both directions while emergency personnel worked at the scene. Members of the National Guard Highways division also attended to the area.

The crash and the efforts to attend to the emergency caused significant road disruptions.
Subsequently, the highway administration reported that traffic towards Atlacomulco was open, albeit with slow movement and an approximate line of seven kilometers. In the direction of Texmelucan, however, the closure continued while the corresponding maneuvers were carried out.
The videos and images released this Tuesday, September 29, allow for a more detailed observation of the scale of the accident and the vehicle fire.
As of the first reports consulted, there was no final official count regarding the number of injured or deceased individuals, so preliminary versions regarding victims should be taken with caution.
