Torrential rains caused flooding in Nagoya, Japan, where water reached a subway platform while authorities maintain a high alert due to the risk of further overflowing, flooding, and landslides.
Images captured at Heiandori station in Nagoya show water accumulating and overflowing onto one of the subway system's platforms, following the intense rainfall recorded this Tuesday, September 8.
The video was recorded by X user @hatabo01227 and shows the consequences of the extreme rainfall affecting the city.
Nagoya records record rainfall
The situation worsened after Nagoya, in Aichi Prefecture, recorded 104.5 millimeters of rain in a single hour, according to information from NHK citing the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).
This figure represents the highest hourly precipitation recorded in Nagoya's history, increasing the risk of flash floods in low-lying areas.
Japan raises flood alert
Due to the torrential rains, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) issued the highest level of flood alert for two prefectures this Tuesday, September 8.
Meteorological authorities warned that intense rainfall could continue over the next few days in different regions of the country.
The population was urged to remain on high alert due to the possibility of increased risks of:
