U.S. President Donald Trump insulted journalists again on Wednesday by calling a CNN reporter "dumb" and an ABC News reporter "stupid" as they asked him about the release of an American detained in Russia.
As he left the White House to attend a rally in South Carolina, the reporters asked him if the release of American professor James Hubbard was linked to the recent easing of Washington's sanctions on Moscow.
"You don't know what you're talking about. You have a low IQ, you're dumb and you work for CNN," the president retorted to Kaitlan Collins, one of the network's most recognizable faces.
When another reporter from ABC News asked him about the same matter, Trump lashed out again: "You are a stupid person, and by the way, your channel is the worst of them all."
These insults come one day after Trump confronted Andrew Feinberg, from the newspaper The Independent, whom he warned he had better "be careful" and asked if he was "a sick person."
The U.S. president has clashed with journalists, especially female reporters, on several occasions during his second term, which began in January 2025.
In November of that year, he told Bloomberg journalist Catherine Lucey to "shut up, you little pig" when she asked him, aboard the presidential plane Air Force One, about the Jeffrey Epstein pedophilia case.
Last May, he called Akayla Gardner of MS Now "dumb" after she asked him about the cost overrun of renovations for a large ballroom at the White House.
In addition, the Republican is engaged in a legal battle to block access to the White House for reporters from CNN, MS Now, and Politico, a measure that a federal judge has blocked for now.
According to a report published Tuesday by The New York Times, Trump is considering turning the current White House press briefing room into an indoor swimming pool, which in practice would expel the press from the presidential complex.
