The United States Department of War released a new batch of reports on Friday regarding encounters with Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP), among which several reports stand out that point to an island in Southern California as a recurring point for UFO sightings.

The documents, which date back to the middle of the last century, detail several sightings on Catalina Island, which belongs to Los Angeles County.

One of the reports, dated August 28, 1952, details the report made by a group of Boy Scouts, who claimed to have seen a "silver-colored object" that was moving "faster than a conventional jet plane" while they were hiking on a mountain on the island in June of that year.

The report states that the sky was clear and cloudless. There was also no wind.

The witnesses claimed that they could not determine the altitude, speed, or distance of the object, which ascended rapidly before disintegrating.

In addition to this report, there is a handwritten letter from an island resident dated May '47, which describes another alleged sighting.

"Around 8 p.m. on April 28, my wife and a teacher saw six objects in the sky; they were not grouped, but appeared in isolation. A few minutes later, after heading to my daughter's house—located on the next street, within the same block—she, my daughter, and my grandson saw four more. All were moving in the same direction," the letter recounts.

The United States Air Force concluded that the incident "lacked sufficient data for evaluation," according to a note placed on the same letter.

Another report, dated November 1953, collects the sighting of a "round, purplish-white object" over Catalina Island. According to the document, the object remained stationary before moving "northwest, in the direction of Los Angeles, for about 10 minutes," without altering its horizontal trajectory.

The declassified documents also include the report of two U.S. servicemen who claim to have seen a mysterious black triangular object flying at an extraordinarily high speed over a sensitive facility in the western part of the country earlier this year.

Last February, the President of the United States, Donald Trump, ordered the release of all information available to the government regarding UFOs and the search for extraterrestrial life beyond our planet.

Numerous voices have been critical of this Trump administration initiative, considering that it releases material that does not shed new light on the possible existence of extraterrestrial life and creates a distraction at a turbulent time for the White House, marked by the war in Iran or the negative polls for Republicans ahead of the November legislative elections.
