Susan Sarandon arrested during protest against Netanyahu in New York

American actress Susan Sarandon was among those arrested by police in New York on Thursday during a demonstration against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

AFP footage shows New York police officers handcuffing the star of "Thelma & Louise" while the Israeli leader was participating in the UN General Assembly.

The New York Post reported that actress Hannah Einbinder, from the series "Hacks", had also been removed by authorities from this demonstration organized by Jewish Voice for Peace.

The New York Police Department did not immediately respond to AFP's inquiries regarding these arrests.

Protesters carrying signs with slogans such as "Stop arming Israel" and "End the genocide" participated in a sit-in while Netanyahu was delivering his speech at the UN.

Sarandon is a regular at demonstrations against the war Israel is waging in Gaza, a stance she has publicly acknowledged has cost her contracts.
